A federal appeals court put former Virginia first lady Maureen McDonnell's case on hold until the U.S. Supreme Court decides whether to review her husband's public corruption convictions.
The appeals court issued its one-sentence order Wednesday, a day after former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell filed his petition with the Supreme Court.
In the petition, Bob McDonnell's lawyers argue that he was convicted based on an overly broad definition of official acts that puts all elected officials at risk of prosecution. Prosecutors have 30 days to respond.
The McDonnells were convicted in September 2014 of doing favors for a former vitamin executive in exchange for more than $165,000 in gifts and loans.
A hearing on Maureen McDonnell's appeal had been set for Oct. 29.
