When a baseball game enters extra innings, anything can happen. That is especially the case in 2021 as the rule in place allows each team to start their half of the inning with a runner on second.

So, as the Orioles and Yankees played into the 11th on Wednesday night, it's no surprise that the ending to the contest was quite extraordinary.

With Baltimore up 4-3 in the bottom of the inning, New York was threatening to push the game further with Gio Urshela on third, just one out and DJ LeMahieu at the plate.

Baltimore outfielder Anthony Santander had other plans, however. LeMahieu flew out to right field for the second out, prompting Ursehla to test his look tagging up. That didn't end well, as Santander delivered a strike to home plate to double up the Yankees and send the Orioles home winners.

Baltimore had grabbed the lead in the top of the 11th thanks to a Chance Sisco RBI single.

The victory pushed Baltimore to 4-2 on the season and helped the team avoid a sweep at the hands of their division rival. As it stands now, the Orioles still hold the lead in the AL East very early on in the 2021 season.
