Another Attempted Abduction in Spotsylvania County

Man tries to force 8-year-old girl into a van

Authorities are investigating another attempted abduction in Spotsylvania County, Va.

Men in a van tried to abduct an 8-year-old girl on Satterfield Court about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

The girl told police the driver of a black Econoline van said, "Hey, baby, come closer to the van," and one of the other three men in the vehicle got out and approached her. The girl ran to the home on Satterfield Court where she lives with her father and stepmother.

The incident wasn't reported until 6:45 p.m., after the girl told her mother at her mother's home.

The van may have been spray-painted black and may have had the word “MALROY” on the side in runny or smeared red lettering.

It was the fifth similar incident in the county in the past three weeks.

On Oct. 29, a 20-year-old woman was walking in the area of the Governors Green subdivision about 3:30 p.m. when three or four men in a black Honda pulled alongside her. Someone opened a door and said, “Let’s go.” She ran and the Honda left the scene.

At about 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25, a 17-year-old girl was walking in the area of the Garrison Woods apartment complex when someone in a beige car started following her. The driver told her to get in and threatened to make her get in, the girl told authorities. She ran, and the driver sped off but threatened to return.

On Oct. 21, a man got out of a van parked on Polaris Court and allegedly chased an 8-year-old girl home from school.

Police don’t believe the incidents are related – there are different descriptions of suspects in these and earlier abduction attempts – but investigators are not ruling out connections.
