A legal secretary from Annandale, Va., was presented with a check for $1 million from the Virginia Lottery.
Barbara Yancey matched five of the six numbers in last week's historic $448 million powerball jackpot to earn the prize.
Yancey bought the quick-pick ticket on a whim during a shopping trip at her local Giant grocery store in Annandale last Wednesday. She said she didn't even check the tickets until someone told her that a $1 million winner had been sold at the store. She learned of her win when she took the tickets in and asked for them to be checked.
Yancey's million-dollar prize translates into a $710,000 lump-sum payout. Yancey would not say if she plans to continue working. When asked by News4's Pat Collins what she planned to do with the money she responded by saying she was "open to ideas."
Yancey said she has been shopping at that Giant on Columbia Pike since she was about 4 or 5 years old. Monday that store also received a $10,000 check from the lottery for selling the winning ticket.
There were three big winners in last week's $448 million Powerball jackpot. One winning ticket was validated by a man from Minnesota. Another belongs to a group of 16 maintenance workers from New Jersey. The third ticket was also sold in the Garden State, but the winner has not come foward just yet.
