The discoveries of two suffering pit bulls in the past month have Anne Arundel County authorities searching for a possible dog-fighting ring.
Princess is recovering from life-threatening bite wounds -- one so severe it left a gaping hole under her arm that got infected -- at Waugh Chapel Animal Hospital. Steven Williams found her wandering in a parking lot on Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park, Md., March 2.
Rocky Road is another recovering pit bull being treated at Waugh Chapel Animal Hospital. About a month ago he was about five miles from where Princess was found. He was suffering from bite wounds on his face and what doctors believe was a knife wound on his leg.
Both dogs likely were used as bait dogs for training other dogs to fight in a dog-fighting operation, animal control officers said. They hope the community can help them find those involved.
The dogs will be placed with rescue groups. Veterinarians are confident both will find permanent homes.
