Amazon has begun hiring for their new Arlington County, Virginia, headquarters, the company said in a blog post.
Amazon, which chose the Crystal City area of Arlington to be the location for their second headquarters in November, said in a post Monday that the company is “ahead of schedule” for the new construction, and plans to create 400 jobs by the end of the year.
Ardine Williams, vice president of workforce development at Amazon, said the company is hiring multiple global category managers, a senior financial analyst for procurement and a human resources specialist for the Arlington office.
“The human resources leaders will help us recruit diverse and customer-obsessed teams and the finance, sourcing and facilities professionals will support the development of our new sites with the goal of building a unique, sustainable, and urban campus for our employees and the local community,” Williams said.
Amazon leased a temporary office space on Crystal Drive in Crystal City, where it will host new hires from June until the Arlington office’s opening this fall.
“We hope our continued investments will create more opportunity for the region’s skilled workforce and underrepresented communities,” Williams said. “We have a unique opportunity to build programs that both support the skills development necessary to create a pipeline for jobs at Amazon, and also increase the talent pool in the DMV.”
The news follows the recent announcement that Amazon will continue its Amazon Future Engineer Program by offering funding for computer science classes in 27 schools across Virginia, as well as literacy programs and STEM labs in over 50 schools across the Commonwealth, according to the blog post.

The hiring news also comes nearly two months after the Arlington County Board voted to authorize millions of dollars in incentives for the gigantic corporation, even as local activists protested against the deal and warned of the effects of gentrification and displacement.
