Alexandria Dedicates New Food Center

Non-Profits can accept and distribute more donations

Alexandria, Virginia, took a huge step forward in efforts to end hunger in the city.

The non-profit Alive! and its coalition of churches dedicated an expanded food center Friday morning.
It adds storage space for more donations and brings better coordination between groups that feed the hungry.

The number of people who need food in Alexandria is probably greater than most people realize, Alive! Executive Director Diane Charles said.

Food distribution takes place on the last Saturday of each month.

Anyone who needs assistance -- or who wants to donate -- should contact Alive!.
