An Alabama man says he had a confrontation last month with Washington Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis at an airport in southeastern Virginia.
Michael Boyd of Birmingham said in a phone interview Thursday evening that Alexis confronted him and his family at Norfolk International Airport on Aug. 4.
The 52-year-old Boyd says Alexis confronted them from 40 yards away as they waited to board a flight because Alexis thought family members were laughing at him. They explained to him that they weren't.
Boyd says he notified airport security but says the guard didn't do anything, and Alexis continued to shout obscenities.
Steven Sterling, director of operations at the airport, says an incident report was filed, but it does not mention Alexis by name. He says there is no video of the confrontation.
