Adult Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries in Collision Involving School Bus

An adult suffered life-threatening injuries in a collision involving a school bus and two other vehicle Friday afternoon, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

A preliminary investigation determined a commercial van collided with an SUV, sending the SUV into the path of a bus from Clopper Mill Elementary School on Clopper Road near Game Preserve Road in Gaithersburg after 1 p.m., Montgomery County police Sgt. Dan Friz said.

The driver of the SUV suffered very serious injuries, News4's Jackie Bensen reported.

Seven special needs students were aboard the bus, Bensen reported, in addition to the driver and an attendant.

The students were taken to the hospital as a precaution but are OK, Bensen reported. The bus driver and attendant also were checked out and are OK, Friz said.

The collision occurred during a rain and sleet combination.

"It was certainly wet out here, and it's so early on that we're looking into what happened as far as what began the collision," Friz said.

Clopper Road was closed in the area for several hours.
