Youth Soccer Coach Accused of Assaulting Refs

A Spotsylvania County youth soccer coach faces charges of assaulting two referees during a game.

The county sheriff's office said Jason Edward Adkins became angry when his team was penalized during a game Tuesday in Fredericksburg.

Adkins is accused of bumping a 16-year-old referee's chest and grabbing the teenager's shirt. The sheriff's office says the referee ejected Adkins and he assaulted another referee.

Neither referee was injured.

Adkins was charged with assault and destruction of property.

He is a coach with the Spotsylvania County Parks and Recreation Little League.

A telephone message left for a Jason Edwards in Christiansburg wasn't returned Wednesday.
