You May Really Have to Be a Rocket Scientist to Prepare Your Own Taxes

You've got company if you struggle to prepare taxes yourself

How do you know when the nation’s tax code is a bit tricky? When the head of the IRS struggles to understand it himself!

According to The Hill, Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Douglas Shulman uses a tax preparer for his own returns.

He’s used one for years, and he isn’t alone. He said 60 percent of Americans use tax preparers. Another 20 percent use software to file their returns.

It doesn't take an accountant’s math skills to know that means four out of five Americans don’t prepare their own taxes.

There may be some light at the end of the tunnel: Shulman said his agency is looking at ways to make preparing taxes simpler.
