Driver Sought After Wrong-Way Crash on I-395

Driver causes crash in HOV lanes on I-395

Virginia State Police are searching for the driver who caused a wrong-way crash on I-395 overnight.

The crash happened in the HOV lanes. Troopers said that at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday the driver was going southbound and lost control around Washington Boulevard. The HOV lanes were operating in the northbound direction.

Virginia State Police said the wrong-way driver then got out of his car and took off running. Somehow another car was also badly damaged in this crash. Investigators have not said if that car was hit or if the driver lost control and hit the barrier. Arlington County police and Virginia State Police used K9 teams to search for the driver who caused the crash.

Investigators have also not said if anyone was hurt. Police and tow trucks cleared the scene about two hours later and re-opened the HOV lanes.
