A woman with a cache of needles and a jar of collagen was detained at Dulles International Airport Thursday morning, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officials said.

According to officials, the woman arrived around 10 a.m. on a Korean Airlines flight. When she handed over her luggage for inspection, officers found a jar containing 10 ounces of collagen and 59 hypodermic needles, authorities said.

The woman told officers she wanted to give the collagen to friends for cosmetic purposes, authorities said.

“CBP officers and agriculture specialists at Dulles have seized some rather interesting items over the years," said Christopher Hess, CBP Port Director for the Port of Washington. "But I think this collagen is a first for many of us.”

Officers denied the woman entry past the airport. She returned to Korea.

The seized needles and collagen, which customs officials said could be unsafe, were handed over to the Food and Drug Administration.
