Woman Falls to Death In Va. Skydiving Accident

A woman falls to her death in the 2nd skydiving accident in Va. two months

ORANGE, Va. -- Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal skydiving accident at the Orange County Airport, the second in less than two months.

State Police spokesman Sgt. Les Tyler said Tuesday that 40-year-old April Haag suffered fatal injuries while skydiving Saturday afternoon.

The Lynchburg woman was tandem jumping with Douglas Zelbey, 44, of Virginia Beach, and they experienced "a hard landing," Tyler said but would not elaborate.

Haag and Zelbey were taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center. Haag died at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Hospital spokeswoman Megan Rowe said Zelbey was in fair condition Wednesday morning.

A Ruckersville man died Sept. 23, one day after he collided with another skydiver during a jump at the airport. The other skydiver was injured.
