Woman in Scary Clown Shirt Wanted in Maryland Theft of Historic Cape

The theft suspect wore a short-sleeved shirt with a large image of what appears to be a scary clown

A woman wearing a distinctive shirt showing a scary clown is wanted by a Maryland sheriff's office after she was caught on video stealing a historic cape from a hospital.

The woman took a 1950s nurse's cape from a historic exhibit at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown, the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.

Video of the theft that occurred at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday shows a woman browsing the exhibit and pausing in front of the cape. She looks at the dark-colored cape, steps closer and then looks around.

She pulls the cape off the mannequin and, after looking at it for a full minute, stuffs it into her bag. Then, she walks away.

The woman, who the sheriff's office called a theft suspect, wore a short-sleeved shirt with a large image of what appears to be a scary clown on the back, and a striped long-sleeved shirt underneath it.

MedStar St. Mary's History Room is meant to reflect the hospital's 105-year history, and contains other artifacts and photographs.

Anyone with information about the identity of the suspect or this incident is asked to call the sheriff's office at 301-475-4200 x8109 or email taylore.nauman@stmarysmd.com
