    A woman attemping to cross Richmond Highway in Alexandria Thursday night was struck and killed, police say.

    Fairfax County police identified the victim as 51-year-old Nelissa Alston and say she was hit while trying to cross Richmond Highway near Fort Hunt Road at about 9:30 p.m.

    The driver of the car that struck Alston remained at scene when Fairfax County Fire and Rescue arrived. Police say neither speed nor alcohol seem to be factors, but say Alston was not in a crosswalk when she was hit.
