Jennifer Lawson, 39, Struck and Killed by Dump Truck Outside Va. School

A 39-year-old Arlington woman has died after being struck by a dump truck outside her son's elementary school.

Crews responded to Nottingham Elementary School on Little Falls Road around 11:30 a.m. Monday morning.

Police said Jennifer Lawson, a mother of three, was reaching into her parked minivan for one of her children when she was struck by a dump truck.

The impact ripped off the rear passenger side door.

Parents who have children at the school said they often see drivers speeding down Little Falls Road, which is narrow, with cars often parked on both sides.

"I think people just go too fast. I don't have any data to back that up, but [some are] going too fast and not paying attention," parent Ingrid Saden said.

Police told News4 the driver of the truck is cooperating with the investigation. He has not been charged. Authorities have not determined whether speed was a factor.

Neighbors described Lawson as a devoted mother and avid runner.
