Woman Struck, Killed in Spotsylvania Co.

A woman riding her bicycle was hit by a car early Thursday

A bicyclist was struck and killed early Thursday morning in Spotsylvania County, deputies said.

Around 2:30 a.m., officials went to the area of Courthouse Road and Bloomsbury Lane for a report of a motor vehicle accident.

Authorities said a white 1999 four door Volkswagen Passat was traveling east on Courthouse Road when it struck a woman riding on her bicycle.

The bicyclist, 49-year-old Allison Britt, was not wearing reflective gear and her bicycle did not have lights. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s family was notified Thursday morning. Britt was known to ride her bike late at night, officials said.

At this time, deputies say speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.

The investigation is ongoing.
