Woman Struck, Killed by Ride On Bus in Maryland

A woman was struck and killed by a Ride On bus in Montgomery County Tuesday evening.

Crews responded to the Rockville Metro station just after 7 p.m. for the accident.

Investigators say the bus driver was taking a left turn from Park Road to North Stone Street when 62-year-old Anicia Carnigal Castillo was struck. She had just arrived at the Metro station to meet her husband.

Castillo was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Capt. Thomas Didone, head of the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction, said the bus driver apparently was waiting for traffic to clear before turning, so speed isn't believed to be a factor. It's too early to tell if Castillo was in the crosswalk, but she's believed to have been in the area of crosswalk.

No charges have been filed, and the investigation will last weeks, police said.

Two passengers on the bus left the scene before police had a chance to interview them. Investigators would like to talk to them.

Originally from the Phillipines, Castillo was a housekeeper who raised a 22-year-old daughter and 18-year-old son. She lived in Falls Church, Va.
