Man Accused of Shooting Woman at Fredericksburg McDonald's Killed Self: Police

A man who led Virginia police on a chase after allegedly shooting a woman at a McDonald's killed himself as police closed in.

His victim continues to fight for her life in an area hospital.

Anthony Ellis, 22, fired shots at the restaurant on Carl D. Silver Parkway in Fredericksburg after 2 p.m. Wednesday, police said. The shooting happened near the kitchen's entrance.

Officers responded to a report that shots were fired at the restaurant. A woman suffering life-threatening injuries was found at the scene, police say.

Ellis fled in a stolen truck, police said. Police found that vehicle just before 4:15 p.m. in the city of Fredericksburg, about a mile from the shooting scene.

Another Chevrolet Silverado was reported stolen from a spot within walking distance.

Police began searching for the Chevy, and the manhunt took police to Spotsylvania County. It appears Ellis shot himself in a wooded area as police  were closing in. Despite life-saving efforts, Ellis died, police say.

It's unclear why the victim and suspect were at the McDonald's, but police say the shooting wasn't random and the two knew each other.
