Woman Sexually Assaulted Outside Mall of Prince George's

A woman walking home from the Metro was robbed and sexually assaulted outside a Hyattsville, Md., mall over the weekend, and police are still searching for a suspect.

The 20-year-old victim was attacked across the street from the Prince George's Plaza station at the Mall at Prince George's.

She was on her way home around 2 a.m. Sunday when a man with a knife came up behind her. He forced her into the loading dock area outside the TJ Maxx at the mall, where he robbed her, demanded she pull her pants down and raped her.

The attacker is still on the loose, and women in the area are concerned.

"Very scary, because I walk this route all the time, and so to know that potentially could happen keeps you quite fearful," said one woman.

The mall is a busy place during the day, but at 2 a.m. when the attack happened, there weren't many people around.

"We just have to take precautions," said another woman. "Just because women, alone, at night, that's just prime for somebody who's actually looking to do so something like that."

The man ran to the Metro station, where he tried to hail a cab but got into some sort of argument with the cab driver. He then ran from the area.

There are several surveillance cameras in the area and police have some good pictures of the suspect. Now they just need the public's help in putting a name with the face.
