Woman Sexually Assaulted in Merrifield

50-year-old woman hit in the head before assault

A 50-year-old woman was sexually assaulted overnight Friday in Merrifield, Va., police said.

About 1:10 a.m. Friday, two men struck the victim in the head with a blunt object and sexually assaulted her behind a Episcopal church in the 2400 block of Gallows Road, authorities said.

The men took cash from the victim before fleeing on foot.

The victim went to Gallows Road to flag down someone for help.

Police said it has been difficult to communicate with the victim because of her injuries.

A pastor told News4's Pat Collins a detective said police are looking in to the possibility that the victim is a homeless woman who sometimes spends the night behind the Episcopal church.

Police are currently developing suspect descriptions.
