Woman Raped in Busy Northwest D.C. Neighborhood

A man raped a woman in an alley in the Friendship Heights area of northwest D.C. about 11 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

The victim was walking in the 5100 block of Wisconsin Avenue after using an ATM when a man with a weapon believed to be a knife approached from behind, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

"It appears she was followed a little bit by a subject who then accosted her and ended up robbing her of money and forced her to an alley nearby," Cmdr. George Kusick said.

He forced her to walk with him as if they were a couple to an alley behind the 5100 block of 44th Street NW, where he raped her.

The rape took place just a couple of blocks from the Friendship Heights Metro station, an area known for its many shopping and dining options.

Detectives are getting surveillance video from a bank in the area.

Police are investigating whether this case is connected to the rape of a woman in the 4200 block of Wisconsin Avenue NW about 11:45 p.m. July 16, though the suspect descriptions are not similar.

"We are still going to look at that case just to be sure," Kusick said.
