Woman Killed on I-95 While Trying to Chase After Dog

The dog also died, police say

A car struck and killed a woman who was chasing after her dog that had escaped on Interstate 95 in Stafford County, Virginia, police say.

A Toyota Camry was going south on I-95 Saturday night when it ran off of the interstate and struck the guardrail near Exit 136, Virginia State Police said.

The dog inside the car ran off after the crash. That's when the driver of the Camry and the dog's owner, 28-year-old Katie M. Mason, chased after the pet into the southbound lanes, state police said.

State police said a Honda Civic going south on I-95 couldn't avoid hitting Mason as she ran through the lane.

Mason died at the scene.

The dog was also struck and killed.

Police are investigating the crash.
