Woman Killed When Car Collides With Tractor-Trailer

Police say victim was not wearing seat belt

A 21-year-old woman has been killed in a crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer.

At about 2:35 a.m. Thursday, A 2005 Toyota Corolla collided with the tractor-trailer on the outerloop of Interstate 495 near the Van Dorn Street exit, police said.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the car wedged underneath the large truck.

The Corolla was traveling east on I-495 when it changed from the center lane into the left lane. A tractor-trailer that was traveling in the left lane swerved in an attempt to avoid the Corolla. However, the vehicles ended up colliding.

The driver of the Toyota, Ryan K. Monahan, of Burke, Va., died at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt.

The truck driver was not hurt. There were no other injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
