A woman was killed in rural Maryland over Labor Day weekend as she tried to help a driver during a flash flood. The driver also was found dead.
The body of Melissa Anne Lehew was found Monday after she disappeared into a rushing river during a storm Friday evening, Maryland State Police announced Monday. Lehew was 34.
The man she tried to help, Daniel Samis, was found dead in his car Saturday morning. He was 67.
Witnesses told police a sedan got stuck on Broad Run Bridge in Churchville, Maryland, about 35 miiles northeast of Baltimore, about 6 p.m. Friday. Floodwater covered the entire car.
Lehew and a man got out of their car and tried to help using a rope. But Lehew fell and was swept over the bridge and into the rushing water of Broad Run.
The man with Lehew tried to find her and then called 911. As he was on the phone, the car stuck in the water tumbled over the side of the bridge.
Dive crews, K-9s and officers from across the region searched for the two missing people. Samis, of Abingdon, Maryland, was found about 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Lehew, of Darlington, was found about 1 p.m. Monday.

Lehew was a mother of four, and the man with her was her boyfriend, his father told the Baltimore Sun.
Maryland State Police advised drivers to avoid roads during flash floods.
