Woman Killed, Man Hurt in Virginia Hilton Hotel Stabbing

A 34-year-old man from Louisiana was charged in the stabbing

A woman is dead and a man suffered serious injuries from a stabbing at a Hilton hotel in Springfield, Virginia, Fairfax County police say.

Police officers responded to the Hilton on the 6500 block of Loisdale Road in Springfield about 3 a.m. Saturday.

They found 55-year-old Toni Newkirk, of Louisiana, dead and a man with injuries to his upper body in a hotel room.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, but he's now stable.

Police say 34-year-old Matthew Cook, who also is from Louisiana, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Newkirk knew Cook, according to police.

Authorities say Cook remains under guard by officers as he receives treatment from a nearby hospital.

Police say when he's released, he will be taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and will be held with no bound.
