Woman Hit by Car, Killed Near Addison Road Metro Station

A woman was hit by a car and killed Wednesday afternoon near the Addison Road Metro station in Capitol Heights, Maryland, officials said.

The pedestrian was hit by a black Nissan Maxima on Central Avenue near Cabin Branch Road, Prince George's County police and fire department officials said. First responders arrived about 2:30 p.m.  

The driver continued, did a U-turn and then stopped, police said.

The victim, who was not identified immediately, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Maxima remained on the scene Wednesday evening, with a shattered windshield and damage to the front end. The speed limit on that section of Central Avenue is 30 mph.

Witnesses told News4 the woman had been walking in the crosswalk. 

No information was available immediately on what preceded the crash. Officials will determine if the driver was speeding or using drugs or alcohol. Sources told News4 that there is surveillance video of the crash.
