Metro should have known better.
That's the basis of a $30 million lawsuit now brought against the transit agency by congressional staffer Amanda Mahnke, who was struck by a Metrobus back in September.
The bus was out of service when it plowed into Mahnke on Florida and Connecticut avenues in Northwest. Mahnke had been out for a morning jog. She suffered serious injuries according to the suit filed in U.S. District Court, including a fractured skull, collapsed lung and other permanent injures.
Mahnke's lawyer told the Washington Post that Metro should not have allowed the bus operator involved, Carla Proctor, behind the wheel based on her negligent driving record. Proctor had reportedly been in two previous accidents before she ran over Mahnke, and she got several traffic tickets in 2009.
Proctor has since been fired. Metro had no comment on the lawsuit on Friday.
