Woman Fights Off Man Who Tried to Rape Her: Police

Police have released a composite sketch of the man they say tried to rape a woman in Alexandria.

The victim was walking through an underground laundry room between two buildings at Cantabury Square when a man grabbed her from behind on Oct. 23. The suspect wrestled with the victim and tried to remove her pants.

Police say the victim hit the suspect in the face with the nozzle of an industrial vacuum, cutting his face. The man pulled out a knife and told the woman to stay in the room while he ran from the scene.

The suspect is described as a black man in his 30s. He is between 5 feet 11 inches and 6 feet tall, and weighs between 180 and 200 pounds. The man wears his hair in braids, has facial hair on his chin and has tattoos on his arms. He was last seen wearing a black tank top and dark boxer shorts.

If you recognize the man in the composite sketch, call Detective Brad Cecchetti with the Alexandria Police Department at 703.746.6858
