A woman darted into traffic along a beltway exit ramp and was hit by a Virginia State Police patrol car early Saturday morning.
Officials said the trooper was taking the exit ramp from I-495 north to Braddock Road when the woman appeared on the left side of the ramp and ran into the travel lane.
The trooper attempted to swerve to miss her, but the side of the patrol car struck the woman. The trooper stopped and helped the woman until emergency personnel arrived.
The victim was transported to Fairfax INOVA Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police located a man nearby and are investigating what caused the woman to run into traffic.
