Winner IDed in $1 Million Powerball Jackpot

Woodbridge man hits it big

The area's newest millionaire has been revealed -- but he almost threw away his winning ticket!

William Lindsay of Woodbridge, Va., hit the $1 million Powerball jackpot Wednesday. He bought his ticket at the Congressional Exxon station on Massachusetts Avenue NE in the District.

Lindsay also had tickets he bought in Virginia and New York. He checked those first, and they weren't winners. So he was about to trash the D.C. ticket, but decided to check the numbers anyway.

Good thing he did, because his numbers -- 4-25-29-34-43 and a Powerball of 29 -- matched the winning numbers.

D.C. Lottery Executive Director Buddy Roogow said this is the second $1 million Powerball win in the District in the past month.

Lottery officials are also still waiting to hear from a $250,000 Mega Millions winner.
