Whole Foods Fight Goes Before Council

Critics argue it could put a strain on the already crowded Route One corridor

The battle over a proposal to bring the first Whole Foods market to Prince George’s County goes before the county council on Monday morning.

The land where developers want the organic food store to go is along Route One near East-West Highway in Riverdale.

Developers want to create a mixed-use property on the land, currently zoned for housing only.

Critics argue a new Whole Foods store will add more traffic to the already crowded Route One corridor.

The Washington Post
reports 17 people have already signed up to testify at the hearing, expected to last several days.
