Hay Fire Closes Westbound I-66 in Fairfax County

A tractor-trailer’s load of hay caught fire Tuesday afternoon, closing westbound Interstate 66 in Fairfax County, Va.

After bales of hay caught fire, the fire engulfed the rest of the truck.

At about 1:30 p.m., Fairfax County Fire and Rescue reached the scene west of Route 123. Westbound traffic was rerouted off I-66 at Route 123, according to state police.

All lanes were open again by 6:45 p.m.

The Virginia Department of Transportation sent several dump trucks to help with the cleanup.

No injuries were reported. There’s no word on a cause.
