Water Main Break Causes Mess in NW Washington

A water main break is causing problems at 21st Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in northwest Washington.

A 12-inch pipe dating to 1859 burst early Monday morning.

You may want to avoid the area. Police closed the 900 block of 21 Street.  Police also closed the westbound lanes of Pennsylvania Avenue starting at 20th Street.

The D.C. Water and Sewer Authority is trying to figure out what caused the break.

It is not clear when it will be fixed, but WASA officials believe the traffic situation will be better Tuesday morning.
