WASHINGTON -- A security guard at Walter Reed shot and killed himself while on duty Tuesday afternoon, police said.
It happened just after noon at the 16th Street gate. Emergency crews showed up to find the contracted security officer inside the gate's guard shack. He had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said. He was prounced dead at the scene.
The 16th Street gate was closed while D.C. police investigated.
