Woman Killed on Virginia Hunting Trip

Shot by fellow hunter

A weekend hunting trip took a tragic turn in Virginia.

A woman was shot and killed by a fellow hunter in King George County.

Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries spokeswoman Julia Dixon said 27-year-old Carrie Loving, of Fredericksburg, was hunting with a group of 20 people Saturday morning. One of the hunters took aim at a deer and one pellet of the buckshot hit Loving in the head.

The shooter was identified as 28-year-old Forrest Matthews, also of the Fredericksburg area, according to Dixon.

The incident was still under investigation Monday.

Investigators will consult with the King George County Commonwealth’s Attorney to determine whether charges are warranted, Dixon said.
