WASHINGTON (AP) -- A 28-year-old Fort Washington woman has been charged with stealing more than $230,000 from the D.C. Water and Sewer Authority.
Sonia Coleman, a former WASA payroll specialist, was charged Friday in federal court with transportation of stolen money.
Prosecutors say Coleman manipulated WASA's payroll system to steal more than $236,000 between 2004 and last year. Charging documents state the stolen money was deposited into one of Coleman's bank accounts and an account belonging to an unidentified person.
Prosecutors say the pair used the money for "personal expenses."
Coleman's attorney declined to comment.
