Voting on D.C. Teachers Union Contract Ends Tonight

Approximately 4,000 D.C. public school teachers have until midnight tonight to vote on whether they want to ratify the proposed union contract.

Henry Collins, one of five union building representatives, said there have been what he calls "mixed emotions," with some teachers pleased with the offer that would boost their salaries by more than 20 percent and include more professional development. Others are worried about a pay-for-performance plan and concerns about the new teacher evaluation system.

The official results are expected by the end of tomorrow. Even if the teachers vote in favor of the agreement, the city council still needs to sign off on it.
