A section of Route 50 will be shut down; expected delays in Bethesda

If you’re planning to travel this weekend or if you're just running some errands around town, check News4's traffic alerts to ensure a safe and stress-free commute.

Maryland and Virginia drivers should avoid parts of Route 50 this weekend, which will be shut down beginning 8 a.m. Saturday morning for a bridge demolition.

Westbound 50 in Arlington will be closed between Courthouse Road and Tenth Street as crews will be taking down the bridge that connects Tenth Street to Route 50 Eastbound.

The Virginia Department of Transportation suggests taking Washington Boulevard to get around the road closure.

Route 50 will reopen Sunday night at 8pm.

And if you’re planning to be in the Bethesda area this weekend, Rockville Pike and Connecticut Avenue may be more congested than usual due to the Navy’s planned anti-terrorism exercises.

Officials at the Walter Reed Medical Center say no one outside of the campus will see anything out of the ordinary, but to expect to see increased security at the entrance gate.
