Virginia State Trooper Injured in I-95 Accident

A Virginia state trooper was airlifted to a hospital after an accident on northbound Interstate 95.

The trooper was outside of his or her cruiser when he or she was struck before 1:15 p.m. Monday about a mile south of Exit 160 (Woodbridge, Occoquan) in the Dale City area. The trooper was pulled over at the scene of a small accident when a northbound vehicle struck a compact car, forcing it into the trooper's cruiser.

The trooper's condition is unknown, but he or she was conscious when airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital. The woman driving the compact car also was injured and airlifted to a hospital, News4's Pat Collins reported.

The northbound lanes of I-95 were shut down just north of Prince William Parkway while police investigated, and traffic was diverted on to the parkway, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. The lanes were reopened by 5 p.m.
