Virginia Man Gunned Down Before Google Job Interview

Computer engineer had interview with Google schedule for next day

Jing Hong Kang, a 45-year-old computer engineer from Fairfax, Va., had just scored an interview with internet-giant Google.  But before he got his chance, he became the victim of a senseless tragedy.

Kang was shot and killed in downtown Oakland, Calif., at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, shortly after leaving a dentist’s office.  Police said Kang's friend, a female dental hygienist, was helping Kang enter directions to his hotel in a rental car’s GPS system when two men approached them demanding money.

Kang was shot and died at the scene. The woman was not harmed.

Kang had an interview scheduled with Google on Monday morning.

Police say the robbers did escape with some of Kang’s belongings.  A $20,000 reward is now being offered for information leading to the men’s arrests.

Kang leaves behind a wife and three sons.
