Violent Purse-Snatching Suspect Arrested



    A suspect is arrested in a purse-snatching incident in Prince George's County that seriously injured a woman. (Published Tuesday, March 8, 2011)

    A man accused of snatching a 71-year-old woman's purse so violently she suffered broken bones is in police custody.

    Jonah Iman, 32, of Suitland, Md., was arrested in connection with the Feb. 25 incident caught on a convenience store surveillance camera.

    The video showed a man walking into the Cigarette Discount store in the 5700 block of Silver Hill Road in District Heights at about 9:20 a.m. He appeared to wait behind the victim at the counter before grabbing her purse.

    The woman fell to the ground and was dragged across the floor before the man fled with the purse.

    The woman suffered a fractured knee, finger, bruised ribs and abrasions to her hands, police said.
