Employers Approach Veterans at Va. Job Fair

Military veterans faced their potential future employers at a veterans' job fair Tuesday.

Held in Herndon by the Northern Virginia Technology Council, the job fair offered veterans an unconventional job recruiting format. Instead of the job seekers browsing different employer booths, the veterans were seated at different tables, where they were approached by recruiters.

"Instead of the veterans going table to table, booth to booth, we have the employers table to table, booth to booth and meeting with every veteran here in attendance," said Andrew Schwartz, program manager at the Virginia Department of Veteran Services.

The fair is part of an ongoing initiative by the Northern Virginia Technology Council to hire veterans in the technology industry.

Organizers believe the new format will become regularly used in future job fairs.

"[It’s] more personable, one-on-one interaction," veteran Carla Reed said.
