Va. Woman Pleads Guilty To Marriott Embezzlement

Alexandria woman receives a year and a day

A former employee of Marriott International has been sentenced to a year and a day in prison for embezzling money from the hotel chain.

Lorraine Wakefield of Alexandria, Va., was sentenced by a judge in Baltimore on Friday. According to a plea agreement, the 51-year-old Wakefield acknowledged embezzling between $400,000 and $1 million from the company. She used her corporate credit card and the corporate credit cards of the executives she supported for personal expenses. She filed false travel expense reports to cover the fraud as well as false invoices so that Marriott paid her personal American Express card.

Wakefield, who worked for Marriott from 2001 to 2010, has agreed to return nearly $440,000 to the company.
