A Virginia high school student died after running during gym class, authorities said.
Caroline High School sophomore Thomas Wendell Wheeler II, 15, suffered cardiac arrest on Tuesday, Caroline County Sheriff Tony Lippa said.
Friends of the teen told WWBT in Richmond that Wheeler complained of pain during the class. He collapsed some time after that, and the school went on lockdown while a team of medics called to the scene worked on the Wheeler.
Wheeler was taken to Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Lippa says the cause of death hasn't been determined but it appears to be natural causes.
