Va. State Police Beefing Up Patrols for Labor Day

Patrols begin Friday, conclude at midnight Monday

As the long Labor Day holiday weekend begins, the Virginia State Police are increasing patrols and looking for reckless or impaired drivers.

The beefed up patrols begin Friday and will conclude at midnight Monday. Last year, six people died in as many crashes during the four-day holiday stretch. None of the six was wearing a seat belt. The previous year, 16 people were killed.

Last year, state police arrested 112 drunken drivers and cited thousands for speeding and reckless driving. They also investigated 731 crashes statewide.
