Va. Police Warn Phone Scammers Posing as Law Enforcement

Residents urged not to give personal info to unknown callers

The Virginia State Police are warning people about a phone scam involving callers posing as law enforcement officials.

State police say that they've received several complaints from residents of Virginia and elsewhere about callers identifying themselves as representatives from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation or from the Judicial Support Bureau.

The callers are trying to convince people to provide personal information, including name, date of birth, Social Security number and other financial information. Authorities stress that people should never give out personal information over the phone to unknown callers.
