Expect Residual Delays on Orange, Silver Lines After Virginia Square Metro Station Evacuated for Smoke in Tunnel

Metro service has been restored on the Orange and Silver Lines after a Virginia station was evacuated due to a report of smoke in the tunnel, but Metro told riders about 8 a.m. Thursday to expect residual delays in both directions.

The Virginia Square-GMU Metro station was evacuated and trains were diverted from the area just before 6:30 a.m., the Arlington County Fire Department said.  The station serves the Orange and Silver lines.

Train service was suspended between the East Falls Church and Clarendon stations.
