Va. Homeless Shelter Won't Make Disputed Temporary Move

A temporary homeless shelter protested by some Virginia neighbors was voted down Tuesday.

The temporary location for the Bailey’s Crossroads Homeless Shelter was planned for behind the Lincolnia Senior Center and next to the Stonegate at Landmark town home community in the Lincolnia area of Fairfax County. Several hundreds of apartments were planned for the shelter's current site on Columbia Pike.

But the developer terminated its plans to develop the county-owned site of the current shelter, and the county purchased a veterinary clinic on Seminary Road where it plans to open a new shelter by fall of 2019.

Residents in the Lincolnia area say part of the appeal of the area was using that plot of land for recreation.
